Supporting Sarcoma UK’s Lifeline for Patients and Families
The Clan Trust is proud to support Sarcoma UK, the national charity dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by sarcoma, a rare and complex cancer with more than 100 subtypes. With public awareness still very low, many people reach diagnosis feeling uncertain, overwhelmed and unsure where to turn for guidance. Sarcoma UK plays a crucial role in ensuring that no one faces this experience alone.
A significant part of this work is delivered through the charity’s Support Line, and the Clan Trust’s contribution is helping ensure this support remains available to those who need it. What began as a simple landline has grown into a full-time clinical service, staffed by specialist nurses and experienced healthcare professionals. The team now responds to around 3,400 contacts each year, offering clear information about diagnosis and treatment, emotional support for patients and families, and practical help navigating travel, specialist centres and next steps after remission.
The Support Line also plays an important role in strengthening the wider healthcare system. Clinicians regularly train GPs, physiotherapists, radiologists and medical students to improve awareness and early recognition of sarcoma, and they contribute to national conversations on policy and care. Their work helps ensure that people affected by this rare cancer receive informed, accurate and compassionate support at every stage of their journey.
Sarcoma UK offers much more than medical guidance. Their support groups which include groups for patients, carers and bereaved families provide a sense of connection for people who often describe sarcoma as a very isolating experience. The charity also produces clear and reliable information for newly diagnosed patients and advocates for better diagnosis and treatment across the country.
Reflecting on the importance of this partnership, Greg Medlock from Sarcoma UK shared:
“We greatly appreciate the support from The Clan Trust. Their generous support has helped us continue to offer help through our Support Line to sarcoma patients, their friends, family and healthcare professionals. Thanks to their ongoing help, we can continue supporting our sarcoma community.”
As Sarcoma UK looks ahead to the coming year, their focus remains on funding groundbreaking research and ensuring every person affected by sarcoma has access to the best possible care, information and support. The Clan Trust is pleased to stand beside them in this work and to help sustain a service that provides comfort and connection to thousands across the UK.
