Supporting Aylsham Care Trust as They Bring Connection, Care and Independence to the Community

The Clan Trust is proud to support Aylsham Care Trust (ACT), a long-established charity that has been at the heart of the local community since 1985. ACT provides vital services for people who are ageing, living with long-term health conditions, or at risk of isolation, helping them stay independent and connected.

With an ageing population and increasing need, demand for ACT’s support continues to grow. Their Day Care Service offers a welcoming space for people living with dementia, mobility challenges, heart conditions and other health issues. Members can enjoy activities, shared meals and the opportunity to spend time with others, while carers benefit from valuable time to rest and recharge knowing their loved ones are safe.

Funding from The Clan Trust is helping ACT enhance this experience by bringing in specialist music therapy and seated exercise sessions. These activities provide enjoyable stimulation, improve wellbeing and offer something unique within the Aylsham area. More than thirty people regularly attend the service, and many more - including partners, carers and families - feel the positive impact.

ACT’s support stretches far beyond the Day Centre. The charity delivers hot, nutritious meals to those unable to cook, provides a low-cost counselling service, organises social outings across Norfolk, runs local lunch clubs and offers home-care support that helps people remain in their own homes for as long as possible. A volunteer car scheme also ensures individuals can reach essential medical appointments.

The difference this makes is reflected in the lived experiences of those who rely on ACT. One member shared:

“Joining the lunch club gave me a focus and helped me make friends. I also rely on the hot meals and the volunteers who help me get to medical appointments. With my family living away, it means a lot to feel part of the ACT family and know people care.”

This story reflects what ACT offers so many people across the community: support, companionship and a sense of belonging.

While ACT receives some referrals through Norfolk County Council, much of its work is made possible through its own fundraising efforts and the support of organisations like The Clan Trust. This support helps sustain their services and enables them to continue responding to rising need in the years ahead.

Looking forward, ACT hopes to reach every person in Aylsham and the surrounding villages who needs companionship, practical help or a safe, supportive space. We’re pleased to contribute to their ongoing work and to stand beside a charity that makes such a meaningful difference within the community.
